We are excited to announce that we plan to celebrate our first full year serving drummers in Portsmouth and beyond by expanding our space and our offerings!

On February 1st, we will officially open our new showroom, just a few doors down from from the existing location in Islington Plaza. With our new showroom comes over 1,000 new square feet of space dedicated to the drums, cymbals, hardware, and accessories you know and love.

We just wanted to take a moment and wish everyone a Merry Christmas. We hope you are enjoying the holiday season and are able to spend quality time with friends and family. Billy Martin of Medeski, Martin, and Wood will be holding a clinic at DCP on Tuesday, October 19th. Billy is performing a short run of clinic dates in October to promote his new DVD, “Life on Drums.” Billy will be joined by his first drum teacher, Allen Herman, and give a drum clinic which will cover his philosophy of drumming featured in “Life on Drums.”

Good news fans! Benny will be doing a short run of clinics in North America at the end of September and the Drum Center of Portsmouth is just one of eight scheduled dates on the run. More importantly, Greb’s stop at DCP is the ONLY visit to New England. If you miss him here, you’ll have to trek all the way to Toronto or Long Island for the next nearest visit.

We are proud to announce a new feature on the Drum Center of Portsmouth website: “This Week in Cymbals.” Each week, we receive multiple shipments of new pies from Istanbul Agop, Bosphorus, Paiste, Meinl and more. This new feature will celebrate the arrival of new pies with videos and links to purchase. “This Week in Cymbals” will be updated weekly, every Sunday afternoon, so be sure to check back often!

On Tuesday, July 6th, DCP hosted its second high profile visitor in as many months. This time, Mr. Shinichi Usuda, owner of the Canopus Drum company in Japan stopped by to say hello. The purpose of Mr. Usuda’s visit was to announce that Shane and the Drum Center of Portsmouth are Canopus’ #1 dealer in the United States! Click to read more

On Wednesday, June 16th, drumming superstar Vinnie Colaiuta paid Shane a visit at DCP. Vinnie is currently on tour with Herbie Hancock and had a gig at The Music Hall in Portsmouth in the evening. Shane and Vinnie spent over an hour trying out various snare drums from DCPs stock that features top craftsmen and manufacturers like Brady, Dunnett, Joyful Noise, and Craviotto. Thanks to you, our most excellent customers, it has truly been an amazing year. When we opened DCP in 2009, we did so doing our best to acknowledge that we are just one small part of a big family. We pledged to provide the best service possible and to treat you, our customers, as we would expect to be treated ourselves. In a sense, you might say we intend DCP to be a shop for the people, by the people.

On April 19, Shane traveled to Monroe, North Carolina, home of Ludwig Drums. Shane was invited, along with a handful of Ludwig’s best dealers from across the USA to visit the factory and meet with key members of the Ludwig Team.
