While jazz music may not be the most current style for some, it’s undoubtedly still one of the most vibrant genres of music ever created. And I know that a lot of talented artists, musicians, and of course—drum fans (except Adam Frost, I believe) are still madly in love with jazz music. Well, consider this your lucky day if you’re a fan because we’re about to see some of the most beautiful jazz drum sets out there!
Today, we will be featuring four (4) high-end jazz drum sets here at the Drum Center of Portsmouth from prominent drum companies including DW, George Way, Gretsch, and Canopus. The Best Jazz Drum Sets Under $2500
Alright! Now, without further ado—it’s time to meet the best jazz drum sets under $2500 available here at DCP. It’s time for trio work!
1. DW Performance Walnut Lacquer 3PC Jazz Drum Set (18/12/14) - DCP Exclusive!
First up, we have the DW Performance 3PC Jazz Drum Set with the elegant and DCP Exclusive, “Walnut Lacquer” finish. This beautiful jazz kit features an 18x14 bass drum, a 12x8 rack tom, and a 14x14 floor tom. All of the drums are made of 8-ply HVX maple shells and fitted with quarter turret lugs. This jazz drum set has no bass drum mount, the toms feature 45° cut edges while the kick drum features 60° edges. Oh, and this one’s definitely best paired with a matching snare drum—the DW Performance Walnut Lacquer 14x5.5 Snare Drum.
As you can see, this is a DW drum set in every way. No detail has been overlooked and no corners have been cut, just how it should be! So, you might be wondering—DW Performance Kits aren’t particularly strong candidates in the jazz world. Then, what made this one stand out? Well, the look and sound of this jazz drum set is decidedly DW.
First of all, the build and finish on this jazz drum set is absolutely top-notch—quarter turret lugs, low mass die-cast claw hook, new badge, logo head, chrome parts, and a hand-sprayed Specialty Walnut Gloss Lacquer available only here at the Drum Center of Portsmouth. Soundwise, this Performance Jazz Drum Set sounds exactly what you expect from a DW maple to do. It’s really warm, with a nice, solid attack, easy-to-tune, and beautiful overall. Ah, and probably what stuck with me the most is its powerful, deep, but controlled low-end that translates flawlessly with the microphones.

2. George Way Aristocrat Studio “6 Point Pink” 3PC Jazz Drum Set (18/12/14)
At number two, we have the George Way Aristocrat Studio 3PC Jazz Drum Set rocking the “6 Point Pink” finish. This gorgeous kit also comes with an 18x14 bass drum, a 12x8 rack tom, and a 14x14 floor tom. It’s made of 4-ply, electronic-bonded maple/poplar shells, 2-ply reinforcement rings, and 30° bearing edges all around. This jazz drum set also has no bass drum mount, it’s got some snazzy turret lugs and the George Way trademark of double-edged, triple-flanged hoops. A matching snare drum is also available for purchase here at DCP, which is the George Way Aristocrat Studio 14x7 Snare Drum.
Well, the “6 Point Pink” finish on this beautiful jazz drum set had everyone here at DCP divided with mixed opinions about it. But truth be told, I’m loving it! It’s got a nice and cool vintage aura which is very suitable for jazz. In terms of sound, I’d say it also probably has the most vintage fee among the four jazz drum sets. The 30° edges are a bit rounded over with the lacquer finish even covering them for added smoothness. This jazz drum set also projects a classically fat, warmer and fuzzier response. Along with it comes good sensitivity and surprisingly deep fundamental pitch which I definitely enjoyed playing.
On top of all that, this George Way jazz drum set features the best hardware and is finished with AAA chrome plating for unparalleled shine and durability. And hey, the quantities on these kits are extremely limited, so make sure to buy it while you can at the Drum Center of Portsmouth!
3. Gretsch Brooklyn “Blue Burst Pearl” 3PC Jazz Drum Set (18/12/14)
At number three, of course, we have a Gretsch jazz drum set. So today, we have the Gretsch Brooklyn 3PC Jazz Drum Set rocking the “Blue Burst Pearl” finish. These drums are made of the classic 6-ply North American maple/poplar shells with 30° bearing edges. The toms feature 302 double-flanged hoops, a tom arm mounted on the bass drum, and suspension mounts. The snare drum we paired with this awesome jazz drum set is the Gretsch Brooklyn 8-Lug “Satin Ice Blue Metallic” 14x5 Snare Drum.
When people talk about jazz, the very first thing that comes to mind is Gretsch. There’s just something about these classy Gretsch drums that perfectly makes sense for jazz. If you’re going for the traditional bop or jazz style drum sound—this jazz drum set is the one! It has the right bass drum sound and the toms have a beautiful tone with a huge amount of sustain. In essence, these drums can sing. The Gretsch Brooklyn jazz drum set has a sound that is absolutely recognizable and essential, yet distinctively reinvented. Just amazing!
Again, this jazz drum set from Gretsch only has limited stocks here at DCP—and they’re running out fast! So make sure to drop by and grab yours as soon as possible. See you!
4. Canopus Yaiba “Indigo Matte Lacquer” 3PC Bop/Jazz Drum Set (18/12/14)
Lastly, we have the Canopus Yaiba II Bop/Jazz Drum Set in “Indigo Matte Lacquer” finish. The shells on these drums are 100% maple in an 8-ply layup with 45° bearing edges. The toms feature triple-flanged hoops while the lugs are made of a really nice low-mass design. Oh, and as an added bonus for all Canopus drums—the tension rods come with free bolt tight washers.
This jazz drum set also includes a bass drum mount and suspension mount on the tom. The snare drum we’ve chosen to pair with this Canopus Yaiba II jazz drum set is the Canopus Yaiba “Antique Brown Matte” 14x5.5 Maple Drum.
The very first thing that I noticed with this jazz drum set is its very warm, soft, pillowy sound especially with the toms. The drums respond very well and they’re fun to play but in terms of the volume, the Canopus Yaiba II were a bit quieter compared to the rest. All in all, it was still an amazing experience playing this bop or jazz drum set. Oh, and it’s also the most affordable one on this list being priced at only $2,188. This is a highly sought jazz drum set so if I were you, I’d act fast!
