Ludwig Acrolite Snare Drums

A Snare for the Working Drummer – The Ludwig Acrolite

The Ludwig Acrolite snare drum was introduced in 1962 as a professional yet affordable snare option for working drummers. The shell is constructed from aluminum which helps provide a very sensitive and responsive snare sound. Aluminum shells were still a relatively new concept in drum-making at the time, pioneered by Ludwig. The metal construction gave the Acrolite a bright, cutting tone that wasn't possible from traditional wood shell drums.

Yet despite being made from metal, the Acrolite still delivered an organic snare sound that was warm and musical. This was achieved by Ludwig's unique manufacturing process that worked the aluminum to precise specifications. The understated finish and affordable price tag gave the Acrolite a unique identity. It quickly became a studio and live favorite for drummers across genres from rock to pop to jazz. Even today, top drummers still rely on the Acrolite for its musicality and crisp snare response. More recently, Ludwig has even expanded the Acrolite series to include brass, copper, and bronze versions, offering even more sonic possibilities. The Acrolite remains highly regarded as one of Ludwig's most innovative and important snare drums.
