I have Ahead soft cases for all of my drums, and they have proven to be great protection after many years and many gigs.
I recently stumbled upon my personal holy grail of a drum set, a brand new 135th Anniversary Gretsch Broadkaster in the beautiful natural mahogany finish, and I wanted extra protection for the 6.5 x 14 snare drum.
This hybrid case provides the extra layer of rigid protection but still retains the great soft lining and tough exterior fabric, without an excessive weight penalty.
I think the extra cost is justified for an extra special snare drum like this one.
