An Unconventional Recipe Yields An Undeniable Tone!

SonicPly is the result of two years of relentless experimentation led by
DW’s resident Woodologist, John Good. Integrating a precision-engineered Aluminum core within a North American Maple shell, SonicPly enhances presence, attack, projection, and definition while retaining the warmth and musicality drummers expect from Maple.

SonicPly is available in shell sizes ranging from 10 to 24 diameters. Outfitted with DW’s tour-proven Collector's Series hardware—including Suspended Tom Mounts (STM), full-size turret lugs, and True Hoops—SonicPly is built for drummers who demand nothing less than perfection.

SonicPly combines the warmth of maple with the cutting edge of aluminum.
The development process was meticulous—finding the ideal adhesive to bond aircraft-grade aluminum with North American maple while enhancing tone and durability was no small feat. The result is a hybrid shell that merges the best qualities of wood and metal, delivering a unique and inspiring playing experience.

SonicPly toms and bass drums feature eight plies of maple fused with a 0.6mm aluminum core.
Snare drums are built with twelve plies of maple and two strategically placed aluminum layers. This precise layering brings out maple’s natural warmth and resonance, while aluminum contributes sharp attack and a dry, focused sustain.

The result is a shell with outstanding projection, sensitivity, and dynamic range—perfect for both stage and studio.
