The Black Panther Design Lab upholds the Mapex tradition of prioritizing "sound first" principles in every aspect of drum design. Building on 30 years of engineering and innovation, these drums represent a significant leap forward in the evolution of acoustic drum technology, pushing the boundaries by experimenting with shell materials, mounting systems, sonic rings, hoops, and other elements that shape the instrument's sound.

Versatus Series drums feature maple/mahogany shells for a full, round tone that will fit into any mix.

The SONIClear II "Halo" mounitng system suspends each tom via four diagonal, lateral and supportive contact "under lug line" points on a one-piece ring suspension system releasing the pressure on the shell more evenly, enabling the shell's full natural vibration and resonance.

Black Panther Design Lab kits come standard with Mapex SONIClear Bearing Edges allowing for the direct transmission of sound, reducing unwanted frequencies and providing a strong fundamental pitch and an effortless tuning experience especially at lower tunings.

The “Sustain Adjustment Knob” on the "Halo" mount can be adjusted to fine-tune the sustain and resonance by controlling the contact area between the mount and shell.

The SAS Attenuating floor tom leg allows you to dial in the sustain of your floor tom in real time without any external dampening materials.
