SONOR’s 150th Anniversary Signature Series: A Masterpiece of Tradition and Innovation
First unveiled at the Frankfurt Musikmesse in 1980, the original SONOR Signature Series set a new standard for high-end drum design. Developed through extensive scientific research, it was created to achieve unmatched sonic and technical performance. The 10.5mm beechwood shells, characterized by their exceptional depth and weight, were designed to maximize drumhead vibration, delivering pure tone with unparalleled resonance and projection. The Signature Series didn’t just raise the bar for premium drum sets—it redefined what they could be.
The 150th Anniversary Signature Series Shell Set is a modern tribute to this iconic line, combining the precision of the original with cutting-edge advancements in drum hardware. To faithfully recreate the legendary shells, 13 plies of hand-selected German beech veneer are cross-laminated, with genuine Bubinga Pommelé (Guibourtia demeusii) veneer on the inner and outer plies. The Bubinga’s striking grain patterns, rich hues, and dark streaks add a visually stunning dimension to the drums.
The shells are finished with a clear high-gloss lacquer, meticulously applied and polished by hand in multiple stages to highlight the natural beauty of the Bubinga veneer. Complementing the rich wood tones, all hardware is plated with 24-carat gold, creating a luxurious aesthetic that befits SONOR’s legacy. Each set is adorned with an individually numbered commemorative badge, certifying its exclusivity.
This limited-edition shell set is restricted to just 75 pieces worldwide. Of these, 25 are crafted in the classic "Heritage" configuration with authentic Signature Series shell depths, while the remaining 50 feature shallower, contemporary depths, offering modern drummers the same craftsmanship with updated versatility.
